Boone County Arboretum

Garden Details:

The Boone County Arboretum is a "living museum" – an amazing outdoor experience featuring more than 3,600 trees and woody shrubs planted over 121 acres. It is a year-round outdoor classroom for children and adults, a source of knowledge and inspiration for local gardeners and professionals, and a glorious place for anyone to reconnect with nature's beauty. Special features at the Arboretum include a Children's Garden, Butterfly Garden, Rain Garden, Utility Line Planting Demonstration, and native grassland.

Boone County Arboretum has been accredited at Level IV, the highest level in the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program. It was the first arboretum in the nation combined with active recreation such as baseball and soccer fields. Plants are grouped in various collection areas along a 2.5-mile paved multi-use trail system. Four information kiosks at the trail heads contain a Visitor's Guide to orient you to the general features, a printed Collections Map (an interactive map also available) to help you find or identify a particular plant in our collections, and flyers for our upcoming classes and events.

Friends of Boone County Arboretum is a non-profit organization that supports the Arboretum with membership, volunteerism and community involvement. Members have the opportunity to be directly involved in planning and implementation if many educational programs and social events throughout the year. Several levels of membership are available, each with corresponding benefits packages.
